Re: [nndl] Park on 551/2 - Good News!

I'd like to thank Jody for his efforts in establishing a green space that can be enjoyed by not only the adults, but also the children of our neighborhood.

It's nice to see something positive and concrete happening around here.  Something that will actually benefit all of us, as opposed to patronizing explanations for why things can't or shouldn't happen.

Beyond the email/listserv etiquette issues, these ego wars and power struggles are simply distracting.  Northfield is facing some tough issues.  Let's try to work together and use the listserv for the good of everyone.

No punishments, no insults, no sarcasm, no BS.  We need to focus on progress and results.

I'm grateful to Jody, Patrick, Chris, Sebastian, et al. for their hard work and dedication to various issues.  I sincerely hope they will continue using their talents to affect positive changes on behalf of our residents, and try to move past the bitterness of these debates.

It would be great to see more action and less pontification on so many of the issues facing our neighborhood.  Let's continue to find ways of working around the City's overloaded and underfunded bureaucracy.

As for the VMU and commercial development issues, I hope compromise will be possible.  Our neighborhood needs to move forward and keep pace with the inevitable changes in fast-growing Austin.

My 2 cents.

I just got a call back about the lot on 551/2 and have some good news.

The City will approve of the neighborhood having a fence on the East
side of the lot (to keep the scary dogs away).

We can also have a few permanent benches.

We will also be allowed to have movable playscape equipment, but have
been asked to favor the East side of the lot
in order to allow access to the creek for occasional
debris removal.

Keep Austin Beautiful is helping to coordinate/sponsor a cleanup day
tentatively scheduled for Feb. 23 (we can change it
if those interested in participating have conflicts).

KAB will be recruiting additional man/womanpower from volunteer groups
(maybe a fraternity or sorority).

Hopefully the city will agree to pick up large brush from the curb
after it is removed. Some other options are possible if not.Does this date sound ok to ya'll?Jody
