I wrote that letter years ago, but I feel as strongly today as I did back then -- I do not like sprawl.I do not want a city that continues to spread out into environmentally sensitive areas.I love riding my bike in the hill country, but it is getting harder and harder with all the new development out there.I love swimming in Barton Springs, but it is getting harder and harder with all the pollution in the water.I want to live in a city where you can walk or ride your bike to get around, but it is getting harder to do that because everything is designed for cars.All because of sprawl.
I can not tell you how much I wish that Austin would stay the same.I really love this town, and I don't ever want it to change.But thousands of people are moving here every year.We can't stop this city from growing like crazy.
Where are they going to live?Can we just sprawl for ever?
I don't think so.So yes, I wrote a very angry letter opposing the city council when they voted to promote even more sprawl over the recharge zone.
I really don't understand how Jody can think that makes me a hypocrite - maybe he can explain it to me.I just don't get it.
