I think you're referring to this email from Monty (it's only owl sounds,
though -- this page is more general: http://www.naturesongs.com/birds.html):

Well that is interesting.
We have three of those large 'orb weaver' spiders in front of our house.
These are 2 inches diameter - with black/yellow bodies. Also called
'writer spiders'. They have - above the webs - hanging on the eaves
these grape size egg things - hard shelled container that can survive a
freeze. She will go up and retrieve baby spiders- because after a
visit up there, we will see numerous baby spiders on the nest. I have
more swallowtail butterflies than I have ever seen, I have had small
toads throughout the summer - usually they are gone by the heat of July.
By August all you see are the adults crouched under a damp rock - but
the population is still breeding.
Also - I hope everyone is familiar with the sound of the eastern screech
owl. They are all over the neighborhood. Right about dusk this male
flies in and perches on the same place each night - high up in the tree
where we can watch him - and that spooky sound they make is something.
This is about the coolest website ever.

Scroll down to eastern screech owl. The 'B' sound is the one we hear
each night - occasionally we hear an 'answer' - that is the A sound. I
assume B is male, A female.
I built a couple of 'owl' houses - come by and I will show them to you.
I hear this owl in the early morning as well.

I wondered about those -- I thought they might be katydids, but I hadn't
been able to see any.
It has been a very strange year, weather-wise.
