The last I heard, Phara's Mediterranean Restaurant & Casbah was hoping to open in the old Ararat space in August of this year (see
http://www.austinchronicle.com/gyrobase/Issue/story?oid=oid:494083), but that didn't happen so maybe it's taking longer to bring the building up to code?

Anyone know what's going to happen at the old Ararat site? It's been
painted and looks like some work has been done, but it seems to be just
sitting there. I heard a rumor that a 'casbah' of some sort was in the
works, courtesy of one of the belly dancers who used to be a regular at
Ararat... when's it happening? Anybody know?
