| HELP NEEDED PASSING OUT FLYERS IN THE PEARCE COMMUNITY THIS WEEK!! Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings Meet at 6pm Pearce Middle School 6401 North Hampton Drive RSVP to aweeks@austin. rr.com Dear Friends, As most of you know, this has been a rough last month for the Pearce community as they have wondered if they would have a middle school in their community this fall. Through the efforts and prayers of parents, community and many of you, Pearce is going to be open on August 24, based on the TEA commissioner' s decision last Tuesday. The school district is scrambling to replace lost staff and bring a new principal in. They are concerned that families, especially those without access to the media, are confused. The district called and was wondering if some of us could help get the word out about registration for Pearce. The district is putting together a flyer today to let families know that student orientation is this Friday morning from 8:30am to 10 am. Also, the Pearce PTA is sponsoring a celebration on Saturday night, August 15, with free food, music and activities for kids to celebrate the community effort and to let people know that Pearce is open. Here's where we come in . . . we already have a pretty good system for passing out HopeFest flyers in the 78723 zip code (Pearce's attendance zone). Could you help with groups of volunteers this Tuesday through Thursday nights to pass out flyers to streets and apartment complexes? We'll also be putting up posters in local stores. This is a HUGE service to the school and will help limit confusion on the first day of classes. The flyers are bilingual. A couple of hours of donated time is all we need. Each group of volunteers will be given a map and clear directions of where to go. We'll meet each evening at 6 pm at Pearce MS, 6401 N. Hampton Dr., to begin. Someone will stay at the school to help with latecomers. Please let me know ASAP if you can help. Spread the word! Allen Weeks 653-4935 aweeks@austin. rr.com |
