KOOP RADIO PRESS RELEASE

Wed 12/17 -KOOP Community Radio presents  "A Neighborly Conversation"  - After the High School Senior Prom - Then What? Challenges and Barriers for Austin's Emerging Young Adults.

High School Seniors, in Austin, are looking forward their Senior Prom as the event of their last year in High School. But what's next?  Many dont have a plan and nor a clue how to navigate the unstructured days after graduation.  This can be a discouraging time for emerging young adults.

Our guests will help address how Seniors and their parents can kick off the  2009 new year helping students to build a map to their future and accomplishing the life skills and goals needed to succeed.

Guests will be Yesica Diaz, Eastside Memorial High School at the Johnston Campus, will discuss her students challenges and how she helps them to plan for post secondary education.

Loretta Edelen, coordinates ACC's Campus Champions, students who have overcome the challenges of foster care to pursue their educational goals at Austin Community College, and to help others do the same.

By 2020, our state demographer, Steve Murdock, says the the majority of adult Texans will not complete their high school education. The impact on the lives of our emerging adults, as well as the blow to our economy struggling without an educated work force is HUGE.
This topic is timely, as hundreds of Austin teens move into their Senior season of choices about their future after high school.

Tune into KOOP 91.7 FM "A Neighborly Conversation, with Moderator, Martha Ward, this
Wednesday December 17, 2008 at noon for this important discussion.
