Hi All,
I plan to convene a special NA meeting next Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 6pm to
discuss a variance request at 5509 Link.
I will hold the meeting here at my studio at 100 W 55th St. as that
will allow those of us in attendance to walk across the street to
inspect the property first hand.
Tonight and tomorrow morning I will be distributing flyers door to
door to alert nearby property owners of this meeting.
I hope that these neighbors and many of our officers can be in
attendance despite the limited notice. Any interested parties are of
course welcome to attend.
The owner of the property at 5509, represented by a local consultant
David Cancialosi, seeks a variance for a two-bedroom unit that was
built w/in
a pre-existing garage w/o permit. The property violates required
setbacks from the main house, the alley to the East and the property
to the North and allowable impervious coverage.
This case was scheduled to be heard by the BOA last night but was
postponed at my urging. Because David would not be unable to attend
our scheduled meeting November 3,
I offered to call this special meeting so that he may present his
proposal and that we may hear and consider it.
The present proposal includes removal of impervious coverage on the
lot from approximately 60% to approximately 43% and creation of a
parking space for the rear unit.
This was not part of the variance request when the NA voted (in
August) against support for the variance.
I plan to follow the following format: 1. David will present his
proposal. 2. We will walk over to the property for a look. 3. We'll
reconvene here to ask any questions of David.
4. David will leave so we can discuss concerns and considerations
among ourselves 5. We will come up with a consensus to support or deny
the variance by way of a vote.
If you are unable to attend but would like to submit a question for
David or opinion to be read at this meeting, please forward same to me.
I hope that special meetings like this will be the rare exception and
that in the future most discussions of this kind may be done at
regularly scheduled NA meetings.
But the relative complexity of requests like this, the need to
research and verify information etc. might make the creation of a NA
development review board - a body that can examine
the details of given requests in detail and offer a recommendation to
the NA as a whole - a good idea.
Best,
Jody
