Subject: [HydePark] TODs and
affordable housing - Community Meeting!

Hi neighbors,

Hyde Parkers who care about the continued existence of affordable
housing in Austin may want to attend this important community meeting, December
10, noon at the Terrazas Library, 1105 E. Cesar Chavez (see below for details).

For the unitiated, Transit Oriented Developments are the name for the
planned communities to be built around the new commuter rail stations. The city
had originally pledged that these developments would be affordable for all
income levels with a goal of 25% affordable housing units per development.
However, it now appears that deal is off the table and we are investing
significant public dollars in these developments for NO public return, just
profits for private investors.

Hope some of you will be able to attend!

Best,

Susan Moffat

Transit Oriented Developments and
Affordable Housing

Please join a group of neighborhood leaders, housing advocates, and
other concerned residents at a community meeting to discuss concerns about the City's failure to include a plan for affordability in
the City's proposed plans for the Crestview, MLK and Saltillo TODS
(transit oriented
development districts). (Remember 2005 and the Council's adoption of the 25%
goal to make 25% of residential units in a TOD affordable? Remember the
Council's 2005 pledge to make sure that persons of all different incomes can
live near the new transit stops?).

When: Monday, December 10th, 12 noon
-1:15
pm

Where: Terrazas Library, community meeting room, 1105 E Cesar Chavez St

Best Regards,
