Sorry neighborhors,

I sent out the "10 reasons" to attend the meeting but did not send out
the announcement of the meeting.

Sustainable neighborhoods (SN) will be an agenda item for our Feb 1 -
discuss and decide whether to officially participate.

In the meantime this SN meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.

Please Forward Our New Video to City Council

Sustainable Neighborhoods has released a new video, "Sam We Can", which
documents the journey of a small child along Anderson Ln.

We think this video can be a great way to raise the awareness of City
leaders regarding the challenges we face in North Central Austin making
areas zoned for apartments truly friendly for families with children,
seniors, and handicapped people. PLEASE consider forwarding this link
and any courteous supporting comments to City Council members. Also
please forward to friends, especially families with children and seniors
who like to walk.

Thurs 1/14 - Lamar Safe Routes to School Meeting

The Lamar Safe Routes to School committee will meet from 6:00 to 7:00 PM
at the Lamar Middle School cafeteria to discuss next steps to implement
a pedestrian and bike safety plan. Parents, students, area residents
and area business leaders are welcome to attend.

SN "Room to Live Campaign" Continues Into 2010

Sustainable Neighborhoods is continuing its campaign, begun in 2009, to
raise awareness for the need to support areas zoned for mixed use with
minimum standards for public open space, including pocket parks and
transit plazas.

In January, we will be submitting a policy letter to City Manager Marc
Ott and City Council, calling for the City to prioritize plazas and
pocket parks close to where CapMetro is planning MetroRapid stations.
The letter is consistent with motions passed by area neighborhood
associations last year supporting minimum open space in mixed use
districts. We're hoping the letter will influence funding in this year's
Mobility Bond initiative. The draft letter will be presented for
discussion at the SN meeting next Tuesday, and a final version posted to
neighborhood listservs after submission to the City.

Also in January, SN will submit to City staff a list of open space
project proposals endorsed by area neighborhood associations. Project
proposals include transit plazas, pocket parks, creek trails, Rails with
Trails, sidewalks, and improved safety at street crossings along area
streets. Allandale Neighborhood Association has not yet voted on
projects - we will submt any ANA-endorsed projects in a follow-up.

We've also released the Sam We Can video, and hope people will send the
link to Council members to raise their awareness of our concern
regarding this issue.
