The true test will be when the Triangle supermarket (intended to be
smaller neighborhood grocery similar to Fresh Plus) gets built out. I
suspect the traffic will STILL be considerably less, despite the fact
that the Triangle has over 1000 apartments in addition to about the same
amount of retail square footage as Central Market (if not more -- I
don't have the numbers at hand).
By the way and for the record, we almost exclusively go grocery shopping
by bicycle, including to Central Market (in fact, I was there
yesterday). Grocery bag panniers will hold the equivalent of a large
paper shopping bag each, so I can easily carry 2 bags of groceries by
myself. When Jen is with, we can carry 4 bags of groceries; so our
carrying capacity is considerably greater than our capacity to consume
the stuff. Usually one pannier full of stuff is a shopping trip, on a
big day, 2.
