[nndl] Ridgetop School marquee update + 3 top priorities for this school year...

See Principal Gloria's message below - ways to support Ridgetop this year, and mark you calendar to come on November 6th to celebrate Ridgetop Elementary School's 70th Anniversary. more info below.
I renewed my Mentor status through Austin Partners in Education, and meet my mentee on Friday -There are lots of ways to be involved and to positively effect a child's life - www.austinpartners.org or [at] .--- On Wed, 9/30/09, [at] < [at] > wrote:

The marquee has been paid for and ordered ! ! ! A permit for a variance through the City is being applied for by AISD. The plans have also been submitted to our Construction department so that they can build the foundation/pedestal for the marquee and then install it for us. AISD will also hold the marquee @ the warehouse until they are ready to install it. This was a BIG issue because the company would not ship it to us unless we had a place to warehouse/store it.

PTA secured additional funds (draining their account basically) to be able to order it now in order to (hopefully) have it in place by the Nov 6 HOOPLA event ! ! !
About $4000 was needed and we had about $2200 last year when we began to look at this. Ms. Francis, our wonderful Head Custodian, took it upon herself to raise as much as possible
to get it here by this year. She sold nachos and treats every Friday last year raising a little over $1000, then we collected some from the election drives (again last year) coming to withing about $700 which the  PTA gave for the marquee from their 'cushion' for this year. It all worked out thanks to everyone's support and the NA's were really supportive of this project - we really appreciate all the support :  )

The top 3 priorities for Ridgetop Elementary this year are:
1. Our 70th Ridgetop Elementary School Anniversary Hoopla (of course) - You can help by volunteering, bringing your Ridgetop pictures & stories to the school librarian, Ms. Rice, < [at] >, informing of community, etc  !

2. Continuing Projects that could use funding: Boy Scouts - Eagle Project for Ridgetop to fence in the cabbage/squash/ & veggie garden (materials only) - Total cost is $650.00 (but anything helps - he's also going to Lowe's, Home Depot for donations) plus volunteers on days of work (more info to come). This is actually my son's Eagle Project which has now been officially accepted by the Capitol Area Boy Scouts Council to begin immediately.

3. Any and all donations for our After School Enrichment Program would be greatly appreciated as well. We're paying for 2 classes (Fencing - $70/class & $200 total for the Capoera - Brazilian Martial Arts). <- I've already raised about $600 for this so we need about $150 more!  Of course, any cooking supplies (HEB cards would be great ! ) for the cooking class or any misc supplies for our Arts & crafts class
(popsicle sticks, const paper, colors, markers, pipe cleaners, etc)  would  also be good.

I hope this helps.
Take care and thanks for coming back to Ridgetop. We really have missed you !

Considering my lousy attendance prior, I am surprised you asked me back. I am unable to commit to CAC at this time. Consider asking a parent from that Ridgetop parent-child- playday that come on the occasional Saturday.  Or there is the Ridgetop graduate of yore, who lives on Evans and 55th, works for Seton, Ernest Santos < [at] >.

Can you get responses, please, for me to questions our community has:
What is the status on the purchase of a new marquee?
What is the amount of funding for the marquee secured to date?

What are the top 3 priorities for this school year to share w/  Northfield and Ridgetop Neighborhoods?
Gratefully,
Martha Ward

Hope all is well with your new job.  :  )
Here is something that Ridgetop is participating in this year. I think we're the only Elementary School in AISD to do so. Please share with NA & other friends.
So, would you be interested in coming back to be a part of our CAC this year? It's once a month at 4 pm the second Monday of the month. We need someone from the community to be on it & you would be perfect for it. Let me know we meet next Monday.
