My Neighbor, Scott, asked me to post the following report of an
unusual incident last night.
A lady about 50 yrs. old claiming to be deaf came to my door at 7:20pm
this evening. She was wearing a red ski hat, bright colored sweatshirt
and jeans.
She wrote out a note saying her car ran out of gas, that she had called
her roommate but she wasn't home and could I give her money for gas.
I asked her where her car was & she gestured it was far away.
I offered to let her use my phone but she said her roommate was deaf as
well. It appeared to be very unlikely that she would have tried to call
her roommate earlier from a payphone or another phone if both were deaf.
I saw her walk towards 56th & Link Avenue. She stopped appearing to
speak with someone else on the street. Perhaps her partner.
I told her that I couldn't help her & then called 311. A police cruiser
came by within 15 minutes.
My roommate thought he saw 2 women near Half-Priced Books earlier who
fit
this description.
