Please take the survey below. I mentioned some problem intersections in the neighborhood. The more of us that do this, the more likely we are to see our problems addressed. ----- Forwarded Message ----

Subject: SN -- No Dec Mtg. -- Please Take Important City Transportation Survey
Hello all,
There will be no Sustainable Neighborhoods meeting this month. Happy Holidays!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Planning Commissioner Kathie Tovo to Speak at SN Meeting Jan 19
Kathie Tovo, a planning commissioner for the City of Austin, will speak at the next SN meeting on January 19.
Please Take the City Mobility Planning Survey - It's Quick and Easy
The City of Austin Transportation Department is surveying people in preparation for changes to the City Mobility Plan, which influences both the Comprehensive Plan and the CAMPO 2035 planning process. (All will influence what things get funded in the coming ten years).
1. Go to http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/transportation/
2. Click on Strategic Mobility Plan Survey
The very simple questionnaire is oriented towards changes around intersections, which fits nicely with SN's vision of greatly-improved pedestrian and bike infrastructure near key intersections along Burnet and Lamar where CapMetro is planning MetroRapid (rapid bus) stations. To simplify greatly, the more sidewalks, trails, pocket parks and plazas we can get funded near MetroRapid stations, the more likely nearby residents will actually use the transit, thereby cutting area traffic. Quality of station area environment is critical to making mass transit work. In North Central Austin, MetroRapid stations are planned for the following intersections:
- Burnet at 49th
- Burnet at North Loop
- Burnet at 2222
- Burnet at Anderson
- Burnet at Ohlen
- Lamar at 2222
- Lamar at Airport
You might also mention the importance of improved pedestrian conditions at Burnet/2222 for the safety of students walking to Lamar MS, and at Burnet/Ohlen for students walking to Burnet MS.
For Burnet at North Loop and Burnet at Anderson, mention the large population of seniors and handicapped people who live nearby.
For Burnet at Anderson, feel free to include the following link to a draft SN video showing the current environment from a child's perspective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTWlz95BQGg (We'll be officially releasing this in January).
Thanks for helping to make our part of Austin a better place to live. See you in 2010!
