Neighbors,
Below is an e-mail sent out to the e-mail subscription list for a
charity I founded, FixAustin.org, which is an animal-welfare advocacy
organization. Whether animal welfare is important to you or not, I
urge you to please get out and vote in the important city-council
runoff election. Early voting ends June 10th, and election day is this
Saturday, June 14th.
Best,

Subject: Morrison v. Galindo Runoff ElectionDear Friends,
We're writing to let you know about an incredibly important Austin City
Council runoff election between Laura Morrison and Cid Galindo. The
last day to vote early is tomorrow, June 10, 2008. After that, the
only day to vote for the city-council runoff is this Saturday, June 14,
2008. Although FixAustin.org does not endorse candidates, we can tell
you what we've learned about the two candidates' views on Austin
animal-welfare policy.
After reviewing the candidates' answers to a variety of animal-welfare questions, we gave Laura Morrison our highest Five-Star Rating. Morrison fought the City's ill-conceived plan to relocate Austin's
animal shelter from the shores of Town Lake to the edge of town, and intelligently engaged
all stakeholders - including homeowners in East Austin - before
reaching her own conclusions. She favors rebuilding Austin's pound on Town Lake,
implementing programs that have ended shelter killing in other cities,
and holding shelter management accountable for poor performance.
On the other hand, we gave Cid Galindo
our lowest One-Star Rating. Out of all the candidates running for
every council seat, Galindo is the only candidate who not only favors
removing the animal shelter from downtown Austin, but also eliminating
the City Council's commitment to keep an adoption center open on Town
Lake. In short, Galindo believes that Austin's lost and homeless pets
should have no opportunity to be adopted from a facility in the heart
of Austin.
Please remember to vote early by June 10th, or on election day, June 14th.
Warmest regards,
The FixAustin.org Management Team
