[nndl] MAG Heavy-Duty Strike Plate Stops Kick-Ins

I just spoke with someone at Cothron's Safe and Lock.  To prevent door kick-ins, he did recommend a heavy-duty strike plate but hadn't heard of the Kick Guard brand.  He recommended the MAG brand (MAG High Security Box Strike), which you can buy at Cothron's or online from MAG's webiste:   http://www.magsecurity.com/products.aspx?id=77&mid=17

NOTE: Make sure it is installed with long (3" screws), so that the plate is actually attached to the stud that supports the door frame.  If a shorter screw is used, the plate will only be attached to the thin door frame and the door could still be kicked in.

I found a helpful article with product recommendations:  http://www.thekeyshop.com/torturetest.asp

1. The new Schlage B660P series of deadbolts that have a beefier bolt assembly and stronger holding screws than that of the standard 400 and 100 series.

2. A MAG High Security Box Strike (Which states on the box that it will stop kick-ins it does and should be used with all deadbolts).

3. A Don-Jo classic wrap around door reinforcer that fits on the door under the deadbolt and door knob to stop the door from splitting it does, too.
Cothron's offers installation services.  If you don't want to have a deadbolt w/heavy-duty strike plate professionally installed, here's a page with instructions for installing a deadbolt and strike plate yourself.  Don't forget to use a HEAVY DUTY strike plate and attach it using LONG 3" screws: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ContentView?pn=Installing_Security&langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053#

Hope this helps.

Michelle
