Greetings.
As many of you know, two years ago I was diagnosed with lymphoma.
During the most challenging parts of my treatments in August of 2007,
Annie and I set a goal that I would recover enough to ride with her on
the tandem in the annual Lance Armstrong Live Strong ride in October.
That year, the ride happened to fall on October 14th -- my 40th birthday
-- so it was a great way to mark the beginning of my life as a cancer
survivor.
Every year, we mark that ride as a benchmark of appreciation -- a
reminder of how very fortunate we are. We are going to be riding in the
Live Strong ride again this year, and we are asking our friends and
neighbors to make a small donation to this very worthy organization. I
know first hand how much progress we have made in treatments for cancer,
and I know how much more needs to be done to wipe out this terrible
disease in its many different forms.
A few months ago, a dear friend of mine lost her daughter to leukemia.
She was only 10 years old, and she spent half of her short life in
treatment. And just a few weeks ago, I lost a friend and colleague to
cancer -- she was diagnosed with lung cancer just a few months after I
was diagnosed with lymphoma. She had never smoked a day in her life.
Cancer is an awful, awful disease, and one way or another every one of
us is affected by it. Please make a small donation to the Lance

Also consider giving to or getting involved with other worthy
organizations trying to extend the lives of people with cancer. There
are many types of cancer, and there are many great organizations doing
really good work to beat lung cancer, breast cancer, leukemia, lymphoma,
skin cancer, etc.
I truly believe we can find cures for most forms of cancer within our
lifetimes -- all we need is political and financial support from people
like us.
