Jody--

Comment on getting neighbors involved:
I recall when I was in junior high (I'm in my 50s now), dad went up and down
our street getting people to sign up for city water and city sewers. It was
probably equivalent of Nelray or Franklin from Lamar to Link. It meant
talking to everyone. I didn't pay attention to the project, but I remember
him going out at night after dinner for weeks.

Yeah, informing neighbors and getting them involved takes a lot of effort
from volunteers. But those doing the work get to meet their neighbors. When
stuff happens that effects everyone on your block, you've got a network
started. It sounds like you've got a network started in your area Jody.
Agreed we really need people all over talking about "stuff" effecting each
other. Some blocks have phone trees. If only half the people are in the
tree, news can be passed around. Some blocks have periodic
gatherings/parties, getting to know each other casually. And there are
monthly meetings at Dayspring Chapel, 55th & Ave G, 1st Monday of the month,
7:00-8:00.

Thanks for spreading news that neighbors might want to hear about or need to
know about. Want to be editor of the newsletter? We need one!!! :-) Or write
an article? Or start a column? Next issue is being compiled as we write
this! It comes out 3 times a year.

Neighbor helping neighbor--

Hi Mary & All,

You probably saw the revelation in the list yesterday that I, and at
lease a few other
neighbors were apparently on the wrong list serve.

I was only on nndl. I had not heard about nnadl until yesterday.
(you can sign up here http://www.northfieldna.org/discussion.html)

Someone had passed nndl on to me when I moved here. I regret to say
that I in turn
I passed it on to at least 12 other households (by way of forward)
and described it as "the
neighborhood list serve."
