>Travis County Clerk Voter Alert
>Dana DeBeauvoir, County Clerk
>
>100 Days and Counting until November 4 Election
>
>Sunday, July 27, begins the 100-day countdown to the November 4
>election, and the Travis County Clerk's Elections staff is preparing
>for what is projected to be an historic turnout. There are several
>important things voters can do to ensure they are prepared for Election
>Day.
>
>VOTER PREPARATION CHECK LIST
>
>1. Register to Vote and UPDATE your Voter Registration now. Voters who
>are new to Travis County must register to vote by Monday, October 6, to
>be eligible to participate in the election on Tuesday, November 4.
>Voters who have moved within Travis County should update their address.
>Name changes also should be updated. The deadline for updates is the
>same as the Voter Registration deadline - October 6. Voters who have
>not updated their records must do so at the polling place before being
>issued a ballot. On Election Day, voters must vote at the precinct
>where they are registered, so this means returning to the polling
>location designated for the previous address if the registration is not
>current.
>
>While the County Clerk administers elections in Travis County, the
>County Tax Assessor-Collector handles Voter Registration functions. To
>register to vote, or to update your Voter Registration status, contact
>the Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector's Voter Registration office
>at 854-9473. You may confirm your voter registration status on the Tax
>Office web site: www.traviscountytax.org.
>
>2. Plan to Vote Early in Person (Monday, October 20 - Friday, October
>31). Texas provides no-excuse Early Voting in Person, and Travis County
>offers one of the most extensive Early Voting programs in the state.
>The County Clerk's "retail approach" to Early Voting focuses on
>securing polling places that voters regularly frequent - such as grocery
>stores, libraries and community centers. Taking advantage of Early
>Voting - especially during the first few days of the period - is the
>easiest way to cast a ballot in person.
>
>3. Prepare and Submit Ballot by Mail Applications when Eligible.
>Active-duty military and overseas citizens are eligible to submit a
>"Federal Post Card Application" to receive a ballot by mail at
>any time.
>
>Beginning Friday, September 5, Texas law allows eligible voters (other
>than overseas and military voters) to submit an "Application for a
>Ballot by Mail." Registered voters must meet one of four
>qualifications to be eligible to receive a Ballot by Mail: be 65 years
>of age or older; be out of the registered county for the entire voting
>period (October 20 - November 4); be disabled; or be incarcerated but
>still eligible to cast a ballot. Applications received prior to
>September 5 must be rejected, according to state law.
>
>Both the FPCA and the ABBM forms can be downloaded from the County
>Clerk's web site: www.traviscountyelections.org, or the Elections
>staff can mail applications to voters. Contact our office at 854-4996
>to request a form.
>
>4. Confirm Your Polling Place. Site selection soon will be completed
>for Early Voting and Election Day polling places. The County Clerk has
>directed staff to plan for additional capacity and expanded
>opportunities for Early Voting and Election Day. Once finalized, the
>complete list of polling locations will be posted on the Elections web
>site. At least a few sites change each election, so voters should be
>sure to check polling locations before heading out to vote.
>
>5. Consider Serving as an Election Worker. If you've ever wondered
>about the way elections are conducted, there's no better way to find
>out than through first-hand experience. The County Clerk's staff
>already is recruiting the nearly 2,000 workers that will be needed for
>the November election. Paid positions include clerks, bilingual clerks,
>ballot board members, election night workers, and other temporary jobs.
>All workers participate in hands-on training and receive training
>manuals that outline election procedures and operational instructions.
>English-Spanish speaking bilingual workers are particularly needed.
>
>Registered Travis County voters who are interested in serving as
>election workers should contact the County Clerk's office at 854-4996,
>send an email to [at] , or stop by our office at 5501
>Airport Boulevard for more information.
>
>Do Your Part!
>This election promises to generate enthusiastic participation. By
>taking steps to do your part, you can contribute to an efficient and
>enjoyable experience for all Travis County voters. We welcome your
>comments and suggestions, and look forward to seeing you at the polls!
