Subject: Fwd: Austin Habitat - Critical volunteer shortage 8/8-8/10 Date: Tuesday, August 5, 2008, 10:14 AM Austin Habitat has a landmark event this weekend, but is critically
short of volunteers.  We are launching our newest neighborhood in
Northeast Austin !  The project entails constructing three houses in
three days (actual tasks listed out below).
 
Up until this past weekend we were juggling sponsor/funding issues
for this project, the final decision to include three houses has
resulted in a major shift in our volunteer forecast.  We are thrilled
to be able to serve three partner families, but need your help to
make it happen!  So, please spread the word, we are critically short
of volunteers.
 
Blitz Build: August 8-10, 2008.
 
If you are interested in connecting with some amazing people, lending
meaning to your summer, and helping to end poverty housing in our
Community, please contact Sarah Joiner , Director of Volunteer
Services at sjoiner@ to sign up. 
 
Because we are providing food, etc. for this project, all volunteers
must RSVP.

Blitz - Volunteer Details
Devonshire 2008
 
WHEN: August 8-10 2008
 
Construction volunteers
Number needed per house/per day:  20 volunteers
 
Construction volunteers will work from 7:30 to about 5:00, each day.
Shift work during construction is not appropriate
Tools and training will be provided.
Work gloves are recommended.
 
The tasks are:
raise the walls
frame the house,
install decking/roofing
install siding
install windows/doors
paint 
 
General Information:
Volunteers must be 18 to participate in the Blitz Build.
We request that all volunteers arrive on-time, dressed appropriately
and prepared for the weather by, wearing sunscreen, a hat,
appropriate clothes, etc.
The location of this project is on Devonshire Drive , Austin 78723 .
(Technically it is on Devonshire Cove, but since it is a new street,
MapQuest does not have it listed.)
Parking is along Tow Bridge Circle .  There is no general volunteer
parking along Devonshire Drive .  There is a mulched walk way between

All volunteers must sign in upon arrival. 
Volunteers should each bring a reusable water bottle or cup;
disposable cups are expensive, wasteful, and create litter on site.
Every individual in the group MUST complete volunteer orientation on-
line.

Click on Volunteer and then go through the Registration / on-line
Volunteer Orientation process (approx. 15 minutes).
This will allow you to get an agency overview, register as a new
volunteer, and print out your liability waiver (which you must bring
with you the first day you volunteer). 
Breakfast snacks, lunch, and a light evening meal will be provided. 
However, any volunteers with special dietary restrictions should
bring their own food.
Mandatory cool down/water breaks are scheduled throughout the day.
There will be water and sports drink available.
