as for the gardening committee meeting
we are meeting at 3pm today in my classroom
to go over details for our march 5th gardening day
you are welcome to come to this meeting
as well as anyone receiving this email
so that you have an idea of what is going on
i'll give you a blurb on what's happening and what the vision is
1. outdoor classroom north west courtyard to be used for pk-5 learning about science
-we are looking to put in a pond, pergola, 4-6 more raised beds
-we already have a rain collection tank (still need to do the piping from tank
to garden beds) and a horseshoe shaped raised bed, a mimosa tree and a few potted plants
2. 2 portables (ie grade levels) have/will have gardens going around thier prtables...4th graders are going
to have a succulant garden and we are thinking about a strawberry patch mixed with sunflowers, merigolds, etc around the 3rd graders portable
3. we have a chicken coop that will be part of the composting process that needs to be repaired and filled with chickens (a few parents and our PPCD class will lead on this project)
4. we have an area against the back of the building that will also have some raised beds for the upper levels to care for
-all beds will have a variety of plants (herbs, fruits, veggies, etc)
-we are trying to make this a green effort
-the goal is to eventually have enough produce to participate in local farmers' markets so that our kids
can see the efforts of their labor working in the real world
so as you see we have a lot to get done
and we cannot do it without everyone working together
(students, teachers, parents, community members)
so let me know when you and anne would like to join me/us
thanks again!
