Date: Thursday, December 10, 2009, 11:34 AMThe CAC/PTA/Core Team meeting is on
Tuesday, so it won't conflict with this at all.I'd like to echo what Marty said, by
saying thank you to everyone because I know that we had a LARGE group of
parents visit this morning. Dr. Palmer was here as well as Dina, the Director
of Escuelita del Alma full Spanish emersion daycare meaning that we had
2 groups of parents here this morning - those from the Mueller subdivision
and those who have kiddos at Escuelita. They all had good things to say
about what they saw and especially in Olivo & Corvett's classrooms
since there were students mixed in the classrooms (nicely done). They pointed
out that they liked how creative the teachers are and how much culture
is embedded in the work that the students are doing - it's not all worksheets
! ? ! ? ! They were really impressed with how engaged and courteous the
students are here.  And they all wanted why noone knows about Ridgetop
? ! ? !Most of them are going to the Board
meeting on Monday and many of them will support Ridgetop and the parents
who are speaking from Escuelita will say that they want Ridgetop to get
the Dual Language program. As a backup or to further support us they want
to make signs saying that. From what I understand, the Board will
vote on Dual Language  that night and then it goes to a committee
for a last review. Out of that committee, will come the selection of 3
schools for the 2 way Dual Language program that will start next Fall in
AISD. So, needless to say that our turnout will be critical so that Ridgetop
is fresh in the minds of the Board that night. Of course, I'll be there
that night to receive the items we get for being a RECOGNIZED school based
on last year's TAKS so I'll get a chance to remind our Board Members that
we want Dual Language @ Ridgteop  when I go up to shake their hand
after the presentation which will help as well.

If you can, I strongly encourage you
to come out on Monday night. It literally is the last opportunity before
they say who will get the program next year.

Thanks

Subject Board Meeting Monday

Hello, all. Monday's school board
meeting will be an important one. Some decisions about Dual Language will
be made that night. Ridgetop definitely needs to make a strong showing
that evening. If you are willing to speak, that would be great! You must
show up early to sign up to be a speaker. Parents from Escuelita del Alma
are planning to attend the meeting to speak to the subject of Dual language
in AISD. We did have some parents on campus this morning who came to see
our Kindergarten and First grade classrooms (thank you all for being so
gracious and letting us into your rooms!). We are hoping that they speak
about Ridgetop specifically when they express their desire for Dual Language
in AISD. However, teacher and campus support at the board meeting are just
as important. I know everyone is tired and it's the last week before we
go on break, but if you can find one more bit of energy and show up on
Monday, Ridgetop would really appreciate it!

Dual Language

I have two children that participated in the dual language program in Alvin schools. This program takes a lot of school funds, parent support and dedicated teachers.
