In 2008, 58% of Australian adults participated, as well as 35 countries and over 370 cities.  It is estimated that 50 million took part.   The goal is over 1 billion this year. John Sutton, Vice President of the Building Officers and Managers Association (BOMA) of Austin has registered Austin on the official Earth Hour website and has notified the downtown Austin buildings to participate.
