[nndl] Council to Vote on Animal Shelter Location THIS Thursday, Oct. 11th at 6pm

Dear Friends,

As you may know, the
City of Austin is considering demolishing our downtown animal shelter
in order to make more room and prettier views for downtown condos.
This is, of course, offensive to anyone who understands that a
shelter's location and visibility is critical to promoting adoptions and saving lives.

Indeed,
America's preeminent shelter expert, Nathan Winograd, researched the
issue and concluded that moving Austin's animal shelter away from
downtown to the eastern outskirts of our community will be a "death
sentence" for homeless dogs and cats who would otherwise find loving
homes.  Please keep in mind that Mr. Winograd runs the only national
organization that has led a city to end the killing of adoptable pets.
No other national organization has ever led a community to no-kill success.  You can read Mr. Winograd's full report here:

http://www.fixaustin.org/pub/NathanWinogradShelter-RelocationReport.pdf.

So what can you do to help stop this move?

1.
E-mail the Austin City Council right now to tell them to rebuild our
animal shelter on the shores of Town Lake on our beautiful
hike-and-bike trail--- where more people will see our pets, visit our
pets, and adopt our pets.  You can e-mail the entire Council at once
using this link:  http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/council/groupemail.htm.

2.
Attend the City Council meeting THIS THURSDAY, October 11th at 6pm to
lend your voice to homeless pets and OPPOSE the demolition and
relocation of Austin's animal shelter.3.  Forward this e-mail to your friends, neighbors,
colleagues, and family.  Together, we can make a difference and save
the lives of hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats who, if moved, will
be slaughtered at Austin's pound.Thank you for caring about Austin's homeless pets.

Warmest regards,
