You may have seen the Statesman story or gotten a flyer handed to you
directly from the Chief at a recent public meeting (handing out his own
fliers instead of having his staff do it...that's our go-getter Chief!)
promoting their participation in the national Citizen Observer network:
http://www.statesma n.com/news/ content/news/ stories/local/ 2009/06/16/ 0616citizen. html If you go to the CitizenObserver homepage and look for area
participating agencies (I clicked on TX, then 78701, capturing a 50
mile radius), you'll see a list including APD, TCSO and the different
APD area commands: http://citizenobser ver.com/cov6/ app/findGroups. html
where on the command pages, you can see alert maps and area contact
info--but on the TCSO and the APD pages, you can connect to the "watch
groups." TCSO's has a direct link, but APD's page doesn't, so you have
go directly to the homepage to "sign up for alerts": http://citizenobser ver.com And if you haven't been to APD's newer version of it's website in the
last year or so, you can (FINALLY after all these years!) find a list
of dates of commander forums with DR contact info, monthly reports,
helpful numbers and even the DOJ recommendations they are still working
on integrating into policy. http://www.ci. austin.tx. us/police/ default.htm

...and there is a link from that page too to the latest RSS feed if you don't have the ability to receive them. TCSO also has a fairly new website (greatly improved!): http://www.tcsherif f.org/ with similar resources and a citizen feedback survey.
