[nndl] $1 a day couple and "Sailing the Farm"

The blog about the folks living on 1 dollar a day is getting a lot of

press... funny thing is we already eat that way most of the time, as we prefer

that food. Oatmeal is one of the best foods a human ( or horse ) can eat, and my

son prefers that over any other breakfast. We eat a lot of rice too, as we like chinese and indian food, and

also make a large pot of beans once a week. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a staple around my house for

quick lunch, or snacks. If you didn't get to read it, google 1 dollar per day couple, and

read their blog. People of the USA are so spoiled to the cheap abundance found in our

groceries stores. We have the cheapest food prices on the planet,

except in countries where the government subsidizes certains staples

( tortillas in mexico and wheat and flour in Egypt ) to help their

poor population. Have you looked into sprouts>? We sprout a lot of our own, using mung

bean seeds and alfalfa seeds... A new book I just got off Amazon from a used book dealer, is called

sailing the farm, and it's about what foods and sprouts can be grown

on board a 30 foot sailboat...
It's one of the BEST books I have read about food storage, nutrition

and how to make food iin a small enclosed space... If they can do it cheaply and nutritiously on a sailboat, surely you

could do the same in a small city lot.
Sailing the Farm, by Ken Neumeyer..
. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn more about food

storage, sprouting and growing vegetables in a small space. mel

I lived/sailed aboard my 20' Flicka for fine years. Sailing the Farm was my bible. Dove for lobster, fish and seaweed as primary foods. Harvested whatever islands offered. Also, "Living on 12 volts " is good resource.

Fair winds,
