Death Toll Rises in Mumbai Attacks

Teams of gunmen stormed luxury hotels, a popular restaurant, hospitals and a crowded train station late Wednesday in coordinated attacks across India's financial capital, Mumbai.

More than 100 people were killed. Police also say the attackers took Westerners hostage. NPR's Philip Reeves talks with Steve Inskeep about the attacks.

Austria says U.S. has DNA of Iraq hostage (Reuters)

Reuters - A fingerprint and DNA sample of an Austrian hostage in Iraq have been received by U.S. authorities, an Austrian official said on Wednesday after a magazine reported that fingers of five westerners had been obtained.



 

Top terrorist leader killed in car bomb attack

One of the world's most wanted and elusive terrorists, Imad Mughniyeh, was killed in a car bombing in Syria nearly 15 years after dropping from sight.

The one-time Hezbollah security chief was the suspected mastermind of attacks that killed hundreds of Americans in Lebanon and of the brutal kidnappings of Westerners.
