The world's largest retailer said its fourth-quarter profits rose 22 percent. Sales for U.S. stores, however, fell nearly 2 percent.
Some analysts say that's partly because of the company's aggressive cost-cutting on food and electronics during the holidays.

Wal-Mart is setting up an environmental ratings system for all of its products. The retailer's suppliers will be required to detail the environmental costs of making their products.
Wal-Mart will then turn that information into an index to help customers understand the sustainability of what they buy.
The initiative could change the way consumer goods are produced and marketed around the world.

When Wal-Mart came out in support of an Obama administration plan that would require large employers to provide health insurance for workers, the move angered the industry. The Wall Street Journal reports the National Retail Federation is sending a letter to Congress, urging members to oppose a health care mandate.
The group says it worries about added costs.

by Tom Linehan WAL-MART IS SCALING BACK IT'S STORE TO HALF THE ORIGINAL SIZE! Instead of a 200,000 plus sq ft SuperCenter, they will be building a 99,000 sq ft Wal-Mart.
