Gamers Solve Problem That Stumped Scientists

A virus like HIV needs a protein to multiply. Find how that protein is created, and you take a step toward stopping it.

The problem is so complex even computers couldn't figure it out. So University of Washington scientists created a video game.

It required players to figure out the protein structure. The winning team found a solution in just 10 days.

Monofonus, the Austin-based record label and multimedia organization released this trailer yesterday, supposedly for a video game in which you would control one of the avatars in some sort of dry hump battle?

Sounds great. Even if it's not real, it's certainly worth a laugh or two.

Robert Nay, in his Utah bedroom, managed to come up with a game that's even more addictive: Bubble Ball.

Boy Scouts Offer Video Game Merit Awards

The Boy Scouts of America announced it will reward skills for playing video games. Scouts who master a game can earn a belt loop or pin for their efforts.

There are other tasks involved. For example, they must explain why it is important to have a rating system for video games.

Nintendo Profits Down, Wii Console Sales Lower

Nintendo's Wii had been on winning streak. The video game was so popular, Nintendo watched its profits triple over the last three years.

But in Tokyo Thursday, the company announced its quarterly profits fell 61 percent, and sales of Wii consoles fell for the first time since the product came out in 2006.
