First Day of DA Runoff Brings Out GOP Voters

Austin Political Report  Wed, 04/02/2008 - 2:09pm

According to an analysis of Monday’s early vote in the Travis County District Attorney’s Democratic runoff, 21.1 percent of those who cast ballots had a history of voting in previous Republican primaries.

If the trend continues, persistent rumors that one of the candidates is making a concerted effort to attract Republican support may be judged a success.

Early voting for primary runoffs begins today

In case you’re not familiar with the concept of runoff voting, here are the basics: If one candidate does not receive a clear majority in any of the primary races, there is a second election — called the runoffs — to determine a clear winner.

It’s sort of like the second round of a tournament.

Fox In Montford’s Henhouse?

Austin Political Report  Tue, 03/25/2008 - 11:13am

We love the heat being generatd in this DA’s race! This little nugget was just irresistable…

In the midst of her runoff campaign for Travis County District Attorney on April 8, Mindy Montford has turned to a disgraced political consultant charged with election fraud to help her get across the finish line.

Mark Littlefield is charged with submitting 1,000 forged signatures to the Hays County Election Office during a petition drive to approve an Austin Community College campus in San Marcos.

The case is still pending.

As Ronnie Leaves, He Says Legacy Is Spelled “Lehmberg”

Austin Political Report  Mon, 01/07/2008 - 11:47am

As expected, Travis Co. DA Ronnie Earle has endorsed Rosemary Lehmberg in the four-way race to succeed him.

During a news conference at the Courthouse this morning, he said Lehmberg “has had a greater role in the success of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office than any other single person.”

Lehmberg joined the office six months before he did, Earle noted, and “has been the director and supervisor of every division of this office.

For the past ten years as First Assistant Travis County District Attorney she has supervised the work of all these divisions.”

Off To The Races

Austin Political Report  Wed, 01/02/2008 - 6:14pm

As usual, the Travis County action is found in the Democratic primary, which may be one reason veteran Travis County Republican Chairman Alan Sager isn’t running again.

Probably the most interesting local race this spring is a free-for-all among four candidates to replace their current boss, retiring Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle.

Gary Cobb, Rosemary Lehmberg, Mindy Montford, and Rick Reed are all running.
