Capturing Mexican American History in Central Texas

The project plans to honor the top 36 nominees of Mexican-American heritage in Travis County in a future exhibit at the Austin History Museum.

But the museum's Gloria Espitia says they can't honor people they don't hear about. "We actually started doing the nominations and calling for the nominations back in about mid-July and up to date, we've received very little," said Espitia.

Espitia says the project is an effort to better chronicle Mexican American history in Central Texas.

Speak Up for Kids CASA 5K

Register to run in the 4th Annual Speak Up for Kids CASA 5K or Kids 1K and support CASA of Travis County by helping us raise awareness and funds to speak up for abused and neglected children.

At the race, enjoy a family photo booth, bounce house, arts and crafts, and healthy runner activities for the whole family.

Registration and activities begin at 7 am, 5K at 8 am and Kids 1K at 8:45 am Entrance Fees: $25 for the 5K and $10 for the Kids 1K (parents can run with children in the 1K for free).

Registration fee includes a t-shirt, goodie bag, and free family photo at our photobooth.
