AG Accepts Texas Redistricting Deal

The Texas attorney general has accepted a deal on temporary voting maps that could salvage the state's April 3 date for primary elections.

Attorney General Greg Abbott said Monday that seven minority groups agreed to a plan that minimizes changes to the original redistricting maps drafted by the GOP-controlled Legislature.

Man indicted for 2 decade old WilCo murder

A Williamson County grand jury has indicted Mark Alan Norwood for the 1986 murder of Christine Morton.

The Christine Morton case is well known because her husband spent 25 years in prison for her murder until DNA evidence exonerated him last year.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says the indictment against Norwood could be a big step toward answering unresolved questions for Morton's family.

Fate of voter ID remains uncertain

The Texas attorney general announced Monday that the state of Texas filed suit in federal court for approval of its controversial voter ID law passed last spring.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 requires Texas to receive preclearance from the Department of Justice before implementing any laws that could affect voter participation.

The law, which would require voters to present a government-issued photo ID at the polls, was supposed to take effect Jan. 1 but has been under review since July.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is asking a federal court to clear the way for the state's Voter ID law after the Department of Justice failed to clear it.

In a court case filed Monday, Abbott said the Obama administration was hostile to laws like the one passed last year in Texas, which requires voters to show a photo identification card in order to vote.
