Iran's Security Forces Stopped Opposition Protest

Huge street demonstrations in Iran have been reduced to only die-hard protesters. Those who tried to gather Wednesday were violently dispersed by security forces.

State-run television says more than 600 people have been arrested since the disputed June 12th presidential election.

Iranian Election Divides Arabs, Their Leaders

Iran's Top Electoral Body Says Election Valid

Iran's Guardian Council, the body that is dominated by clerics and oversees elections, has announced the disputed presidential election will not be annulled.

At the same time, Iran's Revolutionary Guard says it will crush any street demonstrations called to protest the election.

On Monday, a few hundred people tried to mount a protest but police quickly dispersed them.



 

GOP Wants Harsher Tone Toward Iran

Tehran is bracing for more demonstrations after hundreds of thousands of marchers took to the streets to protest agast the official results of last week's presidential elections.

Many in the crowd recalled the street demonstrations of 1978, which eventually forced the Shah of Iran to abdicate in favor of what became the Islamic revolution.
