Bananarchy

Planning Ahead, Austin  Wed, 08/10/2011 - 2:23pm

Ever since becoming a diehard Arrested Development fan, it is hard not to associate a frozen banana without thinking of the Bluth family’s only successful business.

Of course, it was only a matter of time before Austin, the trailer dining epicenter, got its very own frozen banana stand, Bananarchy.

Normally I am not one for ‘kitschy’ trailers, but I am one for hilarious shows, so I am completely on board with the idea of a frozen banana stand.

Paying attention is a good thing

AustinContrarian  Thu, 08/04/2011 - 1:54pm

Ben Wear complains about the congestion on South Congress.  What's notable is that he seems to accuse the city of intentionally fostering  it:

SoCo has become SoSlo.

This is no accident.  In fact, no accidents are part of the plan, from the city's point of view.  That, and creating a "walkable" environment for the ever more popular dining and shopping district.

Complaining is cheap

The City is proposing to tighten the standards for its Residential Permit Parking Program.  This is the program by which the City transfers to homeowners, for free, effective ownership of a portion of the public right-of-way in front of their houses.  The new standards would "raise the bar on documenting need" by, for example, requiring traffic studies.

South Congress Roadwork Starting Very Soon

Austinist  Thu, 06/02/2011 - 5:30pm

The repaving of South Congress that was set to begin this week has been postponed because of water line repairs, supposedly to start sometime next week instead.

The stretch of road from Oltorf to Riverside will be resurfaced in three phases through June and part of July.

Some lanes of South Congress will be closed daily during the construction, so be forewarned. On-street parking won't be allowed within the work zone, and residential streets off of South Congress will also likely be affected by the roadwork.
