Supreme Court. Republicans privately acknowledge that her nomination could probably only be derailed by a major blunder at this point.

President Obama has chosen federal appeals judge Sonia Sotomayor to replace David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court.

If confirmed, Sotomayor will be the third woman and the first Hispanic to serve on the nation’s highest court.
