Report: Google Developing Facebook Rival

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Google has been talking to companies that make social networking games.

Games like Farmville, which is played within Facebook, draw tens of millions of players a month and are potentially lucrative for the sites that host them.

Earlier this year, Google unveiled a networking service called Buzz, but critics complained about privacy concerns.

DARPA is interested now in social networking. The agency recently held a challenge mobilizing thousands of people worldwide to find out how people gather and report information using tools like Twitter.

MySpace To Cut 30 Percent Of Jobs

The social networking Web site MySpace is cutting more than 400 positions. MySpace is making drastic moves because revenues are dropping and the site faces tough competition from Facebook.

The company says the layoffs are an effort to return MySpace to a "startup culture."
