Judge Rejects Citigroup, SEC Settlement

A federal judge has nixed a $285 million settlement between Citigroup and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

He said the deal was "neither fair, nor adequate nor in the public interest." The settlement dealt with Citigroup's handling of subprime mortgage debt prior to the financial crisis.

Megabank Goldman Sachs Charged With Fraud

Federal regulators charged the Wall Street megabank Goldman Sachs with civil fraud Friday. The Securities and Exchange Commission announced the charges in connection with subprime mortgage securities.

Within minutes of the charges being announced, Goldman Sachs' shares fell more than 10 percent.

Judge Rejects SEC's Deal With Bank Of America

A federal judge has rejected an SEC settlement with Bank of America, writing that the government's justification is "at war with common sense." The Securities and Exchange Commission had charged Bank of America executives with misleading its shareholders over the acquisition of Merrill Lynch.

Now that the settlement has been thrown out, the case will go to trial.



 

SEC Charges Mozilo With Fraud, Insider Trading

Former Countrywide Financial head Angelo Mozilo has been charged with civil fraud and illegal insider trading.

The Securities and Exchange Commission also accuses Mozilo and two other former Countrywide executives of "deliberately" misleading investors about the risks the firm took in the mortgage market.
