Iranians: Sanctions Fall Short of Intended Effects

The U.N. Security Council has imposed three rounds of sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear program.

Washington has imposed sanctions on Iranian banks, designed to strangle Iran's ability to use billions of dollars of oil revenues in trade.

The sanctions have had some effect, but ordinary Iranians appear to be more affected by government policies stemming from the international sanctions.

Israeli PM calls for new sanctions against Iran (Reuters)

Reuters - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called on Monday for new U.N. sanctions to be imposed on Iran, after the U.N. nuclear watchdog said Tehran had failed to provide satisfactory answers to reports showing work linked to atomic bombs.

In a report sure to further complicate the U.S.-led drive for additional sanctions against Iran, the atomic watchdog agency of the United Nations has given Iran relatively good marks for its recent cooperation in clearing up suspicions over past nuclear work.
