In the last few days, I’ve had several Republican-leaning friends and family members tell me they were sitting this election out.

The reason? They can’t vote for Sarah Palin.

As we reach the final few weeks of the election season, it’s time for the running mates to pick several key messages, stick to those messages and avoid any major gaffes.

They both need to ramp up their enthusiasm, appeal to the bases and point out the major differences between the two campaigns.

The campaign trail has been interesting, to say the least.

Joe Biden Strategy:

McCain has lead by 5 three days in a row now, so he could be holding a steady lead. Still, with Rasmussen’s poll of likely voters showing a tie, one has to think that Gallup is most likely behind the trend.

With leaners
Obama - 48%
McCain - 46%

Without leaners
Obama - 45%
McCain - 42%

The numbers jump a bit for Obama today, but we haven’t seen impact of the Biden announcement yet.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens in the next couple days before the convention.

Speculation continues to grow on who will be the vice presidential nominees. Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain have not made any official announcements or given any hints as to whom they might chose as a running mate.
