Public University radio station KUT celebrates 50 years on air

Fifty years ago this month, KUT 90.5 FM first hit the airwaves with "The Eyes of Texas."

Radio-television-film professor Robert Schenkkan and a group of UT students led the effort to establish a full-power FM station for the University in 1958.

The Federal Comunications Commission issued the public radio station's call letters, KUT, on Aug.



 

KOOP Fire Extinguishes Programming

For the third time in two years, community based public radio station KOOP 91.7 fm has suffered a studio fire that has put a halt to programming.

Austin Fire Department's community outreach director has indicated that Sunday's fire caused about $100,000 in structural damages and $200,000 in content damages.

The source of the fire is unknown and under investigation at this time.
