Economy Grows At Fastest Rate Since 2003

The economy grew for a second straight quarter from October through December, posting a 5.7 percent annual rate, the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2003.

The Commerce Department report is the strongest evidence to date that the worst recession since the 1930s ended last year.

Figures Suggest Recession's Worst Is Over

The economy grew at a 3.5 percent pace in the third quarter, the best showing in two years, fueled by government-supported spending on cars and homes.

The report from the Commerce Department Thursday, indicates the economy is entering a new phase of recovery.
