Publishers And Booksellers See A 'Predatory' Amazon

Just before Christmas, Amazon infuriated booksellers with an app that allowed customers to check out prices in brick-and-mortar stores and then get a discount if they bought from Amazon instead.

Now publishers and booksellers are looking for new ways to compete with the Goliath of online retailers.

Analysts Have Rosy Outlook For 2011 Holiday Sales

Analysts are predicting a fairly good year for retailers over the holiday season. Those sales are expected to increase 3 percent overall and go up 15 percent for online retailers.

Plus, this is the first year tablets like the iPad may make an impact on the retail landscape.

Amazon Cuts Ties With Calif. Affiliates To Avoid Tax

Under a new law signed by Calif. Gov. Jerry Brown, online retailers like Amazon are supposed to start collecting sales taxes, even when they're based outside the state.

Amazon says the new law is unconstitutional, and it won't collect the tax. One way the company is trying to avoid it, is by severing ties with about 10,000 small businesses and individual blogs based in the state which link to Amazon.com through their websites.
