Gene's Discoverer Left Out Of Nobel Prize

The Nobel Prize for chemistry was awarded this week to three scientists working in the United States for their work on a jellyfish protein that glows in the dark.

But the scientist who found the gene for this protein, and gave it to the eventual Nobel winners, is no longer working in the field.

He drives a shuttle bus for an auto dealership.

The Nobel Prize-winning author whose books chronicled the horrors of the Soviet gulag system has died of heart failure.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn was 89. NPR's Anne Garrels recalls a rare interview she had with Solzhenitsyn just after he was expelled from the Soviet Union in the 1970s.
