Obama Announces Progress In Push To Boost Exports

After a string of bad economic numbers, President Obama says exports in the first four months of the year are up almost 17 percent over last year.

Obama says he's on track to meet his goal of doubling exports over the next five years. The remarks Obama made Wednesday are part of a progress report on his National Export Initiative -- a group he set up this year that aims to boost exports, jobs and the economy.

One solution for the unemployment problem in the United States might be found overseas. President Obama says doubling exports in the next five years could add 2 million jobs.

But less than 1 in 100 U.S. firms do any business overseas. And achieving the administration's goals could require crossing some Democrats.



 

Technology Sector Remains Upbeat About Job Growth

Not many new tech jobs are likely to emerge in 2010, but analysts expect to see a rebound in employment by the middle of the decade.

Over the next five years, the economy may see the addition of 1 million new technology jobs — an increase of about 10 percent.
