Some of the reasons theater isn't a mainstream art form in 2009 America are simple: It doesn't come to you—you have to actually track down the information of what's on where, and then drag yourself to a venue to see it—and, no matter where you are, it's a distinctly local phenomenon, which doesn't jibe with the global trend toward über-interconnectedness.

The theater world isn't flat—at best, it's pretty bumpy.
