A dedication ceremony of the Mollie Steves Zachry Texas Arboretum will be held Saturday, May 30 by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center of The University of Texas at Austin.

Little rain last fall means Texas bluebonnets and other early spring wildflowers will not be as impressive as last year’s display, according to The University of Texas at Austin’s Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.



 

Nature Nights: Astronomy

Join us for family fun Friday evenings this Spring. Nature Nights are fun explorations of plants, animals, and the ecology of Central Texas.

Each evening features interactive presentations, hikes with experts in their fields, and nature crafting for kids of all ages.

Nature Nights are supported through volunteer efforts by Capital Area Master Naturalist volunteers and programs.

 



 

"Luminations" lights Wildflower Center gardens

Saturday, Dec. 11, 6 p.m., Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The gardens of the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will be lit with more than 3,000 luminarias and 5,000 twinkling lights to celebrate the coming holidays.

Enjoy festive music performed by more than a dozen quartets, singers and bands, and view the beautifully decorated holiday trees in the McDermott Learning Center.

Children's activities include making decorations to take home and visiting with Frosty the Snowman.

Saturday, Sept. 4, 9 a.m., Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. If Austin's "Cathedral of Junk" piqued your curiosity, come see a spirit house by Vince Hannemann and other yard creations by Texans at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center starting Sept. 4.

The Yard Show exhibit, sponsored by Texas Folklife and the San Angelo Museum of Art, will be on display in the gardens and the McDermott Learning Center, where photos of yard art projects and decorative bird houses will be showcased.



 

Arboretum established at Wildflower Center

A $1.4 million donation to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center at The University of Texas at Austin will establish an arboretum to showcase the diversity and importance of Texas' trees.

The Mollie Steves Zachry Texas Arboretum will display all 53 species of oak trees native to Texas, descendants of historical trees, iconic Texas trees and more, serving as a premier nature education resource.



 

Lady Bird Johnson Tribute Day held at Wildflower Center

Sunday, July 25, 9 a.m., Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, 4801 La Crosse Ave., Austin, Texas. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center will honor its founder for her environmental legacy with a free admission day.

Activities during the annual Lady Bird Johnson Tribute Day will include a preview of a sculpture-in-progress of Mrs.

Johnson, memorabilia such as a couture dress and evening gloves, children's activities, two book signings and a pottery demonstration by Susie Fowler.
