McCain, thankfully, takes the high road.

The reason I say “thankfully” is that this signals that he’ll most likely not bring up Ayers during the debate.

But that reality obviously remains to be seen.

Palin on the other hand…

And now we find out that if McCain is going to question Obama’s past connections, the Obama camp will respond in kind.

But one of the key difference here is McCain’s past connections are tied to our last massive economic crisis.

So while Ayers, Rezko and Rev. Wright may not necessarily make voters more comfortable with Obama, my guess is that many of them have no idea that McCain was involved in the S&L crisis, so his association with Keating will be new and surprising.

While the nation faces an uncertain future, the two presidential campaigns want you to think about the past. Past associations of the candidates’, that is.

The John McCain campaign has decided to refocus on Barack Obama’s association with unrepentant Weather Underground terrorist Bill Ayers while Obama is dredging up McCain’s involvement with Charles Keating and the infamous Keating Five scandal.
