Nepal on Brink of Dissolving Monarchy

The people of Nepal will head to the polls tomorrow in a milestone election. They're electing an assembly that'll have the task of writing a new constitution and -- possibly getting rid of the monarchy.

For a people who've endured a Maoist insurgency that killed thousands and an unpopular king, they're hoping their fortunes are improving.



 

Bring the troops home, but only in triumph

The justification for the Iraq War lies in the consequences of surrender. If we were to withdraw our troops as both Democratic nominees and several students who protested on March 19 want, one of three things will happen: The Iraq Democracy that our troops have bled for will survive, and the Iraqis will preserve their freedoms against the insurgency on their own; an untenable Civil War will break out, or a theocracy will reign in Iraq with direct aid from Iran.



 

After Mosque Bombing, Samarra Sunnis Remain Alienated

Two years ago, insurgents blew up a sacred Shiite mosque in Samarra, Iraq. Rather than counter the insurgency, the U.S. military and the Iraqi government shut the city down.

Now, the mosque is being rebuilt, but residents complain that they have yet to see real change in their city.
