AP - A gunman killed a police officer and another person after a traffic stop Thursday on the campus of Virginia Tech, the school said, and students and faculty were told to stay inside university buildings as police searched for the suspect.

AP - Virginia Tech was locked down Thursday when three children attending a summer camp said they saw a man holding what looked like a gun, an unsettling report on the campus where a 2007 massacre left 33 people dead.

Agents from across the country are being called in to help gather evidence and construct a timeline of alleged gunman Jared Loughner's movements in the days and weeks before the attack.

Investigators tell NPR that they are trying to understand what motivated Loughner to lash out.
