Cinco de Mayo celebrates Mexican Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza’s victory over French invasion forces at Puebla in 1862, even though the locals sided with the invasion forces (not their own general), and the holiday was created in California (not Mexico) and is still ignored throughout that country today (except for Puebla, of course). But have a nice Cinco de Mayo, anyway. |
