Bank Of America Reports $1.2 Billion Quarterly Loss

The nation's biggest bank is still digging itself out from under the mortgage crisis. Bank of America reported a fourth-quarter loss of $1.2 billion.

Total losses for last year amounted to more than $2 billion.

Banks Report Sharp Drop In Earnings

Goldman Sachs' stock fell 2.6 percent after the bank reported 53 percent lower earnings in the fourth quarter.

Wells Fargo & Co. also fell 1.9 percent.

Wal-Mart's U.S Sales Appear Soft

The world's largest retailer said its fourth-quarter profits rose 22 percent. Sales for U.S. stores, however, fell nearly 2 percent.

Some analysts say that's partly because of the company's aggressive cost-cutting on food and electronics during the holidays.
